ABOUT / PROFILE
ASUMI KUWANA is a Japan-based Visual Artist working across borders and cultures.Working across painting, flowers, washi, the body, light, color, and space, she combines different forms of expression to create installations, performances, participatory works, and spatial works.
Her practice looks closely at the individuality of people and places, as well as values that are already there but have yet to become visible, bringing them into view through her work.
Through art, she seeks to create new connections between people, between people and places, and across different cultures.
Rather than erasing differences or boundaries, she creates spaces where each can remain distinct while resonating with one another, allowing new relationships and worlds to emerge.

絵画、花、和紙、身体、光、色、空間など、さまざまな表現を組み合わせながら、インスタレーション、パフォーマンス、参加型作品、空間表現を制作している。
人や場所がもつ個性や、そこにあるまだ目に見えていない価値を見つめ、それらを作品として可視化する。
アートを通して、人と人、人と場所、異なる文化の間に新しいつながりを生み出すことを目指している。
異なるものの境界を消すのではなく、それぞれが存在したまま共鳴し、新しい関係性や世界が生まれる場をつくる。
BIOGRAPHY
ASUMI KUWANA is a Japan-based Visual Artist whose creative roots lie in flowers and theatre.Her practice has expanded from flowers into painting, the body, performance, and spatial expression, bringing different forms of expression together across installations, performances, participatory works, and site-responsive projects.Her work has been presented through public art, commercial and cultural projects, live performances, and exhibitions in Japan and internationally.
ASUMI KUWANAは、日本を拠点に活動するVisual Artist。花と演劇を創作のルーツに持つ。花から絵画、身体、パフォーマンス、空間表現へと領域を広げ、異なる表現を組み合わせながら、インスタレーション、パフォーマンス、参加型作品、場所に応答するプロジェクトを展開している。公共空間、商業・文化プロジェクト、ライブパフォーマンス、国内外での展示など、さまざまな場で作品を発表している。

・Floral Art Couture — Signature Artistic Practice
A signature artistic practice that visualizes the inner qualities and individuality of each person through layers of flowers, the body, painting, and space. Each work is created as a unique environment for one individual.
・ Hakata Station — Seasonal Large-Scale Live Painting Series
A series of large-scale live paintings created for a public space at Hakata Station. Each work responded to the changing seasons through painting, washi, plants, and spatial elements.
・ lyf Ginza & lyf Fukuoka — Site-Specific Art Installations
Site-specific artworks created for hotel environments, responding to the architecture, atmosphere, and identity of each location. Painting and washi were integrated directly into the spatial experience.
・Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin — Floral Mannequin Art Installation
Five mannequin installations created across multiple floors of the department store, each developed around a different concept. Floral and sculptural elements transformed the mannequins into artworks within the commercial space.
・Art Gate at Fukuoka Art Museum — Participatory Public Art Project
A participatory public art project created in front of the Fukuoka Art Museum through workshops with children and adults. Individual contributions were brought together to form one collective installation.
・ TEDxHakata — VR Painting Performance
A live performance combining VR painting with physical performance, exploring new possibilities between the body, visual expression, and technology.
・Kimono × Floral Art Performance — Fukuoka City Event
A live floral art performance presented at an event organized by Fukuoka City, combining kimono, the human body, and floral expression. The performance was also featured on the television program Kyoukan TV.
・EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai — Live Floral Art Performance
A live art performance presented in connection with Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, bringing together floral materials, the body, and real-time creation in a public setting.・ Paris 2025 — Group Exhibition
Floral Art Couture was presented as part of a group exhibition in Paris, marking an important step in bringing the practice into an international context.
・Selected for Japan Expo Paris 2026 — Live Floral Art Performance
Selected to present two 30-minute floral art performances over two days at Japan Expo Paris 2026. One performance focused on creating a floral work on the human body, while the other explored floral expression through an object or spatial installation. Selected for the program; did not participate.
・ Paris 2026 — Site-Specific Floral Art Couture Project
Upcoming — November 2026
An upcoming site-specific project in Paris expanding Floral Art Couture from the human body into an immersive spatial environment. The work will bring together flowers, plants, washi, painting, body, and space within a single artistic world.
